I'll admit I haven't used my kindle in a while and the screen said it was flat, I have placed it on charge all day and it is not responding. Help?
John Hodgkinson says: It would help us to try to help you if you told us which model Kindle you have.
But try one of the following:

For an e-ink screen Kindle:
Try a hard reboot - hold the power switch in the 'on' position for 30 seconds (count them slowly) and then wait until the Kindle reboots - that will take some minutes.
Unplug it from any power source and don't touch any keys until it reboots.

For a Fire:
Try performing a hard reset on your Kindle Fire.
Unplug the Fire from all power sources and then press and hold the power button for 20 seconds (count them slowly) and then release.
Ignore any shutdown messages. After the device has completely turned off, press the power button to restart your Kindle Fire.
If that does not help, then I think that you need to use the large orange Contact Us button to the right to contact Amazon Kindle CS and talk with them about it - use the live chat or the call back feature if you can, not email.
If you can't see a Contact Us button on this page, then go to kindle-help and contact CS.
I advise using Live Chat or the Call Me Back feature and not email, as they will have your account details available to them immediately when you talk with them.
“If your Kindle does not power on or is unresponsive during use, try resetting the device by sliding and holding the power switch for 15 seconds before releasing.”
Here’s what I recommend—and it has worked for me repeatedly.
The reset Amazon suggests often works. Do that first. All you need to do is slide and hold the power button. Hold it for 15 to 30 seconds.
If that doesn’t work though, you’ll need to do a hard reset. Keep in mind, it will void your warranty if you open your Kindle. And while this particular method works for older Kindles, it doesn’t work on the Kindle 3 or later (for Kindle 3 and up users, check the comments). Here’s how to do it:
Peel off the back cover of the Kindle. You can do this by using a wedge (I just used my fingernail) to lift it.
Beneath the battery (the large white thing) and to the left, there’s a small hole. Stick a pin or paperclip in there for a few seconds.
Slide and hold the power switch for 15-30 seconds.
